Chronic Pain: Transforming Your Narrative
Excruciating pain. Loneliness. Anxiety. Depression. Neverending. These words describe the feelings and experiences of individuals living with chronic pain. Chronic pain drains you not only physically, but emotionally and sometimes spiritually as well. Your pain may feel like a death sentence with no release in sight. Those living with Chronic Pain will repeatedly ask themselves questions like: “Would I have this pain if I had done (fill in the blank) differently?” “How would my life be different right not if I did not have this pain?” “Why did this happen to me?” “Should I be doing something different to try and address this pain?” Chronic pain sufferers can become entrenched in a cycle of endless “what” and “why” questions that make it difficult to focus on anything else. Blue Sky Family Counseling has therapists who specialize in chronic pain and are here to serve you. Our therapists are Pain Warriors themselves and are honored to support you and advocate for you in any way possible. My name is Lucy Dunning, LCMHS, and I have completed training and certification and am now a National Support Group Leader and Advocacy Leader for the U.S. Pain Foundation. The U.S. Pain Foundation is a national organization now operating at a local level in the Carolinas in the form of support groups and meetings. Support Groups are held virtually once a month with the goal of starting in-person group meetings once we have clearance due to COVID. Our support group is near the border of North and South Carolina, giving individuals living with chronic pain from both states an opportunity to access important resources.
