Parenting in Pain
This Group focuses on the difficulties of parenting children while experiencing chronic pain. Chronic Pain is a growing problem throughout the United States. Research indicates that every year, the age range of individuals with chronic pain and illness increases. As the age of the onset of pain increases, chronic pain patients are being challenged with more obstacles, such as how to parent and manage a chronic pain condition or chronic illness. For many parents in this population, going home and “resting” is often not a “realistic option.
This group will explore the dynamics of parenting and chronic pain, pain de-escalation skills, pain pacing specific to parenting, exploration of children’s reactions and feelings when having a parent in chronic pain or illness, psychoeducational on pain, activities you can do with children, how to explain your medical situation to your child/children based on age, processing feelings of guilt, exploring the meaning of quality time, how to continue connecting with your child when limited on activity, challenges the family unit faces, and resources for ongoing support. Additionally, you will meet other parents and a sense of community. The group is led by Lucy Dunning, LPC who is also a chronic pain patient and has 3 school aged children.
$450 for a 6 week session. Can be paid in installments if needed.
