Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & Depression
Anxiety and depression cause disruption in a person’s day to day activities. If you are struggling with anxiety or depression, you may have a difficult time spending time with family/friends, lose interest in activities, and have a hard time getting out of bed in the mornings. When experiencing anxiety, you might find yourself building up fear about events that have not taken place yet. You experience an unhealthy focus on the future. If you have depression, you will find yourself focusing on past events. With depression, you find it hard to be future-focused and you will be “stuck” in the past.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder than can lead to embarrassment and interrupt an individual’s quality of life. OCD is often a set of fear response type behaviors or thoughts that are often repeated or “obsessive”. These behaviors can manifest in a variety of ways. One of the most common behaviors we see in children and adults is through “skin picking”. It often starts off as an imperfection in the skin and grows into a much larger issue among stressed out and overachieving adults. This behavior manifests through repeated picking of a scar can get serious enough to where you can get bacterial infections such as MRSA. Many adults are embarrassed to talk about this however it is much more common among amount high achieving and high pressure adults. The earlier the intervention, the earlier chance you have a successfully stopping the behavior.
