Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is an intensive therapeutic intervention with a licensed therapist in which the animal is used for specific treatment related goals. Animal-Assisted Therapy animals help calm the nervous system down and they can sense human emotions. Working with the assistance of therapy animals and the therapist is a safe and interactive way of exploring emotions and working through high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.

Animal Assisted therapy can assist in many ways for individuals experiencing chronic pain. There have been a number of research studies supporting the idea that Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to help individuals experiencing many medical conditions including but not limited to neuropathy, fibromyalgia, anxiety, and depression. Lucy Dunning, LPC provides animal assisted therapy in office in addition to providing assessments for qualification of Emotional Support Services.
